United Kingdom
Windle Trust works in partnership with UK universities to provide postgraduate opportunities to young people who will provide leadership and professional skills in African societies recovering from conflict. Each year about thirty student come to the UK mainly for one year Masters Programmes.
Sudan
Windle Trust provides study opportunities at university level in Sudan for refugees and Sudanese affected by conflict from Darfur, Southern Sudan, and the Nuba Mountains. Windle also enables Southern Sudanese to develop their professional skills in training institutions in Kenya and Uganda. Windle has trained 400 English tutors and is training 900 primary school teachers to introduce the new English language primary school curriculum in Southern Sudan. The Trust also supports the reform of the legal system by providing English Language upgrading to the judiciary and civil servants.
Uganda
Windle Trust Uganda’s largest programme is funded by the Dutch Government and supports secondary schools and vocational training colleges in Northern Uganda so that they may train and educate 3500 young Ugandans who were forcibly abducted by the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army, of whose families were directly affected by that conflict. WTU also manages scholarship programmes for refugees in Uganda supporting students at secondary, vocational and undergraduate level.
Kenya
In 2005-6 Windle Trust Kenya has trained 230 primary school teachers in Kakuma Refugee Camp, and has also provided English training to health workers, adult educators, teachers and social workers, as well as to vulnerable women, in Kakuma and Dadaab Refugee Camps.
WTK also manages scholarship programmes for refugees and for Southern Sudanese which provide access to education at secondary and tertiary level.
